Week 7 Predictions: All SEC, All Everything

You know how you have those weeks where you may pick a team to win, but you’re not bothered if they lose? Yeah, that happened a lot in Week 6.

Last week: 4-5 (44.4%)
This week: 8-1 (88.8%)
Overall: 57-26 (68.7%)

It’s all SEC-on-SEC this week. Some old rivalries that don’t look great. Some possible upsets. Let’s see what happens.

10/16

Florida at LSU – The corndogs are burnt. They’re done. Florida lost to Kentucky and an obviously terrible Alabama team. This game used to be good. Not anymore. It’s an 11am game in Baton Rouge. Nobody will be there.

Florida 34, LSU 13

Florida 49, LSU 42 – FAILURE

Texas A&M at Missouri – Before we start thinking the Aggies just have it all figured out because they beat lowly Alabama, let’s just slow down a little bit. But, of course, Missouri is terrible so Texas A&M will win big and be ranked in the Top 10 again next week (with losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State and a 3-point win over 1-win Colorado). There will be confirmation bias to the max.

Texas A&M 45, Missouri 21

Texas A&M 35, Missouri 14 – SUCCESS!

Kentucky at Georgia – Watch out! It’s another Top 11 matchup in Athens! College Gameday is back just two weeks after being there for the other Top 11 Matchup in Athens! Kentucky has beaten two of the worst versions of LSU and Florida in years. They struggled with Missouri, Chattanooga, and South Carolina. That’s Kentucky. It won’t be close, but it’s Top 11!

Georgia 35, Kentucky 3

Georgia 30, Kentucky 13 – SUCCESS!

Vanderbilt at South Carolina – All SEC West teams have a conference win. Three SEC East Teams have no conference wins. This game features two of them (Missouri is the other). Neither is obviously good, but South Carolina isn’t as bad as Vanderbilt.

South Carolina 23, Vanderbilt 13

South Carolina 21, Vanderbilt 20 – SUCCESS!

Alabama at Mississippi State – The Maroons have a 1-point over Louisiana Tech, a decent win over NC State, a probably shouldn’t be a loss against Memphis, a close loss to LSU, and a close win over Texas A&M. If they can beat Texas A&M, they can beat Alabama, right? Nah.

Alabama 38, Mississippi State 10

Alabama 49, Mississippi State 9 – SUCCESS!

Ole Miss at Tennessee – Tennessee wanted Lane Kiffin back, but then Tennessee started scoring a lot of points (against bad teams). This game will have zero defense and thousands of points and Ole Miss will score more of them.

Ole Miss 56, Tennessee 48

Ole Miss 31, Tennessee 26 – SUCCESS!

Auburn at Arkansas – Check back later for my prediction in the game preview, but SPOILER ALERT: nobody likes limp bacon.

Auburn 34, Arkansas 17

Auburn 38, Arkansas 23 – SUCCESS!

Other Games of Note

Oklahoma State at Texas – The Longhorns threw away a win against a not-so-great Oklahoma. Oklahoma State is probably better than the Sooners. Texas is not back and they never will be, and even if they do get really good again, it’s not like it’s a return to normalcy. Much like Nick Saban’s success literally has zero to do with Bear Bryant or Alabama’s “tradition,” but that’s a talk for another day.

Oklahoma State 34, Texas 21

Oklahoma State 32, Texas 24 – SUCCESS!

BYU at Baylor – This is about the only other game in the nation with two teams that are ranked or close to being ranked (they both have one loss). BYU is scrappy good. Baylor is bigger school, but still scrappy good. I’m going with bigger school.

Baylor 23, BYU 17

Baylor 38, BYU 24 – SUCCESS!

Now that you know who will win, head on over to the 2021 War Blogle Pick ’em and get your picks in. There will be weekly prizes and an overall winner at the end of the season. It’s easy. Do it.
