Week 7 Predictions: Bye Week Bliss

It’s bound to happen. When SEC play picks up, bad predictions will happen until we really know what we have. I’ve never been so happy to be so wrong about two bad picks, though (see: Week 6).

Last Week: 3-5 (37.5%)
This Week: 0-0 (0.0%)
Overall: 54-24 (69.2%)

We have one team stepping outside of conference in an absolute joke of a road trip, but 12 others are keeping it down home, cuz.

10/12

South Carolina at Alabama – South Carolina is probably about as good as Vanderbilt. Alabama is not good enough to beat Vanderbilt, but the world isn’t that lucky.

Alabama 38, South Carolina 10

Missouri at UMass – Dear Lord. What is this? Why do we allow this posing, overhyped team to take a spot in this conference. You DO NOT travel to UMass.

Missouri 52, UMass 7

Texas at Oklahoma – The Longhorns have gotten a lot of credit for not doing too much this season. They beat Michigan at Michigan and has just been living of that for a month. And now we know beating Michigan this season isn’t the great feat it once seemed. Seriously, Texas’s next toughest victory was Mississippi State. We may need to pump the breaks. Oklahoma is fine. Not awesome, not terrible. I think it’l be close, but Texas is probably better.

Texas 28, Oklahoma 20

Mississippi State at Georgia – Battle of the Bulldogs. It’s a really bad team against a team that is talented enough to cover up deficiencies they haven’t had in a few years. it’ll be respectable for a half.

Georgia 41, Mississippi State 10

Florida at Tennessee – Remember when this was like the Oklahoma-Texas of the SEC? Florida isn’t good and Tennessee has been exposed. This is not the appointment television it was in the 90s, and honestly it hasn’t been in a while.

Tennessee 30, Florida 21

Ole Miss at LSU – The Rebels fed off cupcakes, lost to Kentucky, and then beat South Carolina (who killed Kentucky). This is quintessential mid-level conference stability. They’re all really the same and outcomes will be all over the place. I feel like I haven’t seen LSU play in a month. They have the one loss to USC and since have beaten teams they should beat. The home team will win.

LSU 34, Ole Miss 28

Vanderbilt at Kentucky – The Bottom of the Barrel Bowl has a different look this year. Both teams have bad losses, but both teams have a top 10 win on their resumé. It’s hard to trust each team. Vandy’s QB lost to Georgia State but then shredded Alabama. Kentucky was destroyed by South Carolina, but beat Ole Miss. I think Vandy has more upside and is riding high.

Vanderbilt 41, Kentucky 35

Other Games of Note

Penn State at USC – It’s going to take a very long time for me to get used to these conference matchups. Who knew Penn State was 5-0 and ranked in the Top 5? USC had looked pretty good, but now they have losses to Michigan and Minnesota, so maybe they aren’t ready for the Big 10. It will show more this week.

Penn State 28, USC 17

Ohio State at Oregon – It’s going to take a very long time for me to get used to these conference matchups. Did I just say that? Both are 5-0 and 2-0 in conference. Ohio State is #2, Oregon is #3. I feel like I should be hearing about this a lot more. Does the fact that it’s a “conference matchup” make it feel a tad less special? Let’s dive into that on another day. All I know is that Oregon has struggled against lower teams in some wins, so I guess we’ll go with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State 34, Oregon 31

Now that you know who will win, head on over to the 2024 War Blogle Pick ’em and get your picks in. There will be weekly prizes and an overall winner at the end of the season. It’s easy. Do it.
