Hugh Freeze Era Comes to an End at Aubur

Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen released a statement on Sunday afternoon announcing a “change in leadership” for the Auburn football program.

“I have informed Coach Freeze of my decision to make a change in leadership with the Auburn Football program. Coach Freeze is a man of integrity, and we are appreciative of his investment in Auburn and his relentless work over the last three years in bolstering our roster. Our expectations for Auburn Football are to annually compete for championships and the search for the next leader of Auburn Football begins immediately.”

The Freeze era ends with a 15-19 overall record, a 6-16 SEC record, and 0-1 bowl record in just over 2.5 seasons. Despite the joke, every single loss this season was close, very winnable, and for various reasons (Auburn and not) the games were not won.

Hugh Freeze released a statement on Twitter this afternoon.

Freeze had his history, but I think paid his dues, righted the ship, and was doing things the right way. He cared about winning at Auburn and you could tell he loves the place. It just didn’t work out. Whether it was his fault or not, that’s all that matters in what is now the business of college football.
