Is it just me or does college football get a little bit drunker every year? Coming off of a winning week I shouldn’t really complain, but good grief it doesn’t exactly give anyone confidence heading forward either. Just take the last two weeks for example.
California struggles mightily at home against UC Davis and then comes to Jordan Hare stadium and gets a win. Notre Dame beats Texas A&M in College Station by two scores and then loses at home to Northern Illinois the next week. South Carolina almost loses to Old Dominion week one and then absolutely destroys Kentucky in Lexington the next week. Alabama had a one-point lead over South Florida well into the fourth quarter. Like what is going on? I think it’s safe to say you simply can’t put a lot of stock into one week. And yes, I’m talking to a lot of Auburn fans.
We move on. After a (3-2) week last week we’re heading in the right direction. We are now (4-6) on the year and look to keep the momentum going forward. Here are your week 3 winners.
Alabama TEASER -10/U55.5 @ Wisconsin
We think Alabama takes care of business here. Wisconsin hasn’t looked stellar against their two cupcakes. Not that Bama has looked elite by any means, we just think the dam will eventually break. We don’t see Wisconsin being able to score anywhere near enough points to win but homefield advantage, defense, and Big-10 grandpa football will keep this one low scoring enough.
LSU -6.5 @ South Carolina
Is there anything more inconsistent than South Carolina under Beamer? We think that South Carolina is better than they looked against Old Dominion but not as good as they looked against Kentucky. LSU already has a loss, and it just feels like they need this one more than South Carolina does. GameDay will be lit, the towels will be flying, but no reason LSU shouldn’t still win by a touchdown.
Memphis +7 @ Florida State
Yes. You’re reading it right. Florida State is about to start 0-3. Surprisingly enough, this isn’t about how bad FSU is, Memphis is actually a pretty good football team and may have something to say about potentially making the playoff when it’s all said and done.
Washinton State +4.5 @ Washington
This is not last year’s Washington team. They have slept through their first two cupcakes where State has thumped a cupcake and beat a pretty decent Texas Tech team by three touchdowns. Up to this point it just seems the wrong team is favored here.
West Virginia @ Pittsburgh +1
Ah, some good old-fashioned hate. The backyard brawl never ceases to let us down. No secret sauce here we just think Pitt will ride the homefield and the momentum from last week after the big come from behind win at Cincinnati. I think this one will love up to its name.
Vanderbilt -10.5 @ Georgia State
Remember what I was saying about college football being drunk? Well, it’s a very real possibility that Vandy ends up starting out 3-0. Who had that on their bingo card? Kind a weird road game but Vandy takes care of business here.
