Get Fairley on the Cover of NCAA 12 + Photoshoot Pics

As announced on ESPN2’s First Take this morning, for the first time ever EA Sports will allow the fans to vote for the player that they want to see on the Cover of NCAA 12. If you have no idea what that is, it’s the football video game that the kids go crazy for each year.

EA Sports has made it easy and cut the candidates down to four. They took out the obvious choice, Cam, for obvious reasons: he’s too big to put on the cover of anything, and he’s already gotten every other honor and if he got another one everybody else would pretty much just quit playing football.

The final four candidates are Nick Fairley (Auburn), Mark Ingram (Alabama), Jake Locker (Washington), and Demarco Murray (Oklahoma).

You know I’m biased, but it shouldn’t even be close. Ingram would have been okay for NCAA 11, but they can’t put current players on the cover. Jake Locker….yeah, no idea on that one. DeMarco Murray is good and all, but like the other candidates, he didn’t have anything close to the dominant season that Fairley had.

Part of me is somewhat bothered by the fact that there’s even a vote. It should go to the best player in football, which was Cam, but if he’s not on the cover, it should go to the next best player in football, which is Nick Fairley. I understand the marketing aspect of this, and it will get people excited for the game just through the voting process, but still…

So, if you want to vote, and you should, go here to do so. Voting started today and will continue until Final Four weekend (April 4, 2011). Nick will be promoting this through his Twitter and Facebook accounts and will be posting links to videos about the contest soon.

A member of Fairley’s PR firm sent me the pictures below. They are a few candid shots from the photoshoot for the possible cover. I was told to keep them under wraps until the announcement was made on ESPN2 this morning. Now that it has happened, here you go:

It’s pretty neat that I went from saying “Wow, number 90 is a beast. Where did he come from?” during the Mississippi State game to voting for him to be on the cover of NCAA12 this morning. What an unbelievably freaking fantastic year. War Eagle.

I remember seeing Nick play some in 2009 and thinking ‘Why isn’t he playing more? He is a beast.’

I would love to see a remake of the Terry Tate Office linebacker commercials with Nick blowing up some unsuspecting office workers
