#4 Auburn baseball dropped their first series of the 2026 season in a hard-fought series versus the #2 Texas Longhorns. This series had just about everything from a grinder of a first game to a Texas sized shootout in game 2, it was a close series that saw the Longhorns prevail due to more timely hitting and a fantastic pitching performance in game 3. Both teams showcased why they can be considered the class of the conference going forward this season.
Game 1 was the most exciting if you are an Auburn fan as the party got started early via back-to-back doubles from Chris Rembert and Chase Fralick which gave the good guys an early 1-0 lead. Texas center fielder Aiden Robbins proved to be the villain of the series as he blasted two solo shots which tied the game in the 4th and then gave Texas a 2-1 lead in the 9th aided by an Anthony Pack Jr fielder’s choice which moved the game to 3-1 heading into Auburn’s last at bat.
Mason McCraine started off the bottom of the 9th with a double and then an Ethin Bingamin walk, and Lucas Steele single loaded the bases as Ty Thompson represented the winning run as he came in to pinch run for Steele. Brandon McCraine struck out looking, which brought Bristol Carter to the dish in the most intense moment of the season thus far. Carter wasted no time as he laced a line drive towards center which then snuck under the glove of Robbins and rolled all the way to the center field wall giving the Tigers a thrilling 4-3 walk off victory.

The shootout of game 2 was all Texas early as a two-run 2nd and four- run 3rd aided by another Robbins homer and three run blast from Jayden Duplantier gave the Longhorns a comfy 6-0 lead. Auburn’s scoring finally started in the 4th as the brothers McCraine both had RBI groundouts to make it 6-2. A homerun from Rembert and singles from Bub Terrell and Eric Guevara saw the Tigers claw back to a 7-5 deficit. Fralick then moved Auburn within one run as he roped a single down the left field line that scored Rembert. The stage was set for Carter again as with two outs and the bases juiced, he stepped up but this time shot one to the third baseman Temo Becerra who then stepped on the third base bag to ensure the 7-6 Texas victory which evened up the series at one all.
Both teams emptied out their pitching staffs with Texas’ proving to be the better one as they shut out Auburn’s lineup with 11 strikeouts to give them a 5-0 win and a big time series win to go along with it.
Top Tiger: Chris Rembert takes home this past weekend’s “Top Tiger” honor as he went 4-12 with 1 RBI, 1 homerun, and 1 walk.
Auburn won’t be on campus at all this week as Tuesday they take on the South Alabama Jaguars at the newly named DABOS Park in Montgomery and then will travel to the unfriendly confines of Sewell-Thomas Stadium to take on heated rivals Alabama over the weekend. War Eagle!
