Barner Bets: Cajun Barner’s Rivalry Week Picks

I was out last week sick. If you haven’t figured out that you should bet your

mortgage payment on Indiana to cover…I am here to help. You missed one of the best money trains I’ve seen since Hurts at OU & Cig’s JMU teams. I cashed out a couple weeks ago at just over $40,000. Not too bad considering I started with $2,000. There were many many bets hit that were not documented in this blog. I have a system. It’s a little too much to detail week in and week out. I also parlay from time to time. However I advise that you do not. Should you want to see which bets were bundled take a look back at the larger amounts. I never hit more than a 4 leg, believe me I tried. Also, if you win more than you lose…go buy bitcoin. Do yourself a favor and invest.

Speaking of losing parlays, I lost a very large one yesterday…new TRD Sequoia money. Thanks A&M great job. It was of course a parlay, just needed the cover.

How have I known what to size into this season? The SEC script has been on full display since we got jobbed in Norman. All I have done is read between the lines and think to myself “What would Sank do?” or “What would I tell Sank to do if I was the person at Disney whose job it is to keep the SEC investment producing ROI?” That’s pretty much what I’ve ridden to the bank. Not tremendously difficult.

At the beginning of the year I detailed what we plan to do with the winnings. Wifey is choosing the Valentines Vacation landing spot, leaning towards another trip to Nayara in Costa Rica or a possible week in St. Augustine. Dunno yet. She’s got my LLC’s Amex so I’ll get the notification shortly after she decides. Christmas has been ordered. Pro Dad Move…I buy my own presents. The ones that will be gifted to me. I got new ostrich boots and a matching belt. Should’ve bought the candle, Tecovas smells amazing. I’ll grab that Benelli 828U after the Playoffs right before heading to Arkansas for a timber duck hunt.

Rivalry Week Picks

Ohio St. -7.5 v. Michigan [O/U 44.5]

I am in on the over here. Could backfire. Ohio State hasn’t played anyone so there hasn’t been any need to score a lot. I don’t see Michigan scoring a ton of points against a generationally great defense. Seriously go watch them. Michigan has been owning this rivalry so OSU should be ready to roll. Staying away from the spread and the moneyline is too much. 44.5 points just doesn’t seem like enough hate here, taking over.

Texas Tech -31.5 v. West Virginia [O/U 55.5]

Could the tortilla throwers stfu about the B12 strength of scheduled. The spread is 31.5, that means you don’t play anyone. Seriously, stfu. Your conference champ gets to play in the CFP, the #2 will get what’s left after the portal SEC team that doesn’t wanna be there. The B12 team will win and talk about it on twitter. I’m taking Texas Tech to cover and the over. They gotta beat em bad right now. Bet the storyline.

Miami -7.5 v. Pitt [O/U 44.5]

It’s really funny how the conferences will put all this crap in the media cycle to try and prop up their case for the CFP. Pitt sucks. I mean they suck suck. I could go oilfield on here but no, let’s keep it clean. Miami to cover and the over.

UCF v. BYU -17.5 [O/U 46.5]

Mormons have to win in such a way that people will take them seriously. Dunno how that’ll go over in the deep south. But if anything Mormon’s are resilient and there when you least expect it. I’ll take a shot on them to prove they’re relevancy. I will only bet the over here though.

ULM - HELMET HISTORY

A graphic of a plane with explanations of ULM brand elements.

ULM v. ULL -10.5 [O/U 47.5]

Wanted to give a little back story on my alma mater’s mascot. The P-40 Warhawk was flown by Monroe native, General Claire Lee Chennault’s Flying Tigers in China prior to WW2. ULM did not have the funds to bribe a local tribe into allowing them to remain the Indians. I think the Warhawk is far more badass. I’m a big history buff and majored in aviation for a couple of years. I am constantly pissed that I can’t get badass WW2 aviation themed merch from where I went to school. But…outside of the view overlooking the bayou from the library…Funroe is a shithole.

These schools hate each other. I do mean hate. They actually sued each other over the use of the un-hyphenated University of Louisiana moniker. I had just graduated from ULM when it all went down. Believe me when I say ‘ULL’ the Univ. of Louisiana at Lafayette is the real Univ. of Louisiana. What’s better is they hate LSU just as much as any fan base. If you wear purple and gold to a sporting event someone will bring you a red shirt for the game…that’s if they let you stay. Most of the time you can’t understand what a Cajun is saying ..usually it’s what you want to eat, how you’re doing (and they care), when was the last time you went to mass. The Warhawks have the best uniforms outside of Oregon but ULL has the culture. ULM has a helluva view from the library overlooking a bayou. But that’s it. Cajuns by a million, not really, they both stink, but it’s in Lafayette. Taking the home team.

Mizzou -4.5 v. Arkansas [O/U 54.5]

Arkansas on the biggest storyline whiff in college football not hiring Gus Malzahn. But they’re probably landing Alex Golesh. Just take the over.

Thank the lawd Drink was extended. I’m sure anyone reading this is aware of his mediocre record. I don’t have to educate on how bad he is. If you disagree go reread the opening paragraph, take a breath, do some homework.

Vanderbilt v. Tennessee -2.5 [O/U 65.5]

Ok so I’m on a rare under here. I think Pavia fatigue has set it, I blame ESPN for having a cameraman dedicated to Diego’s mom. Please stop. I love Pavia’s on field attitude but he’s going the way of JM2. Very excited to see the extension of Clark Lea’s contract. Vandy has more money than they can count. UT v Vandy will be a blast for the foreseeable future. I am betting Pavia to win moneyline +124.

LSU v. Oklahoma -10.5 [O/U 35.5]

I can see a world where Sank sacrifices a team to appease the masses. The SEC will have Ole Miss, UGA, Bama, Texas, & aTm in the CFP. OU just doesn’t fit the big picture. They can’t be justified. Honestly they’re just not very good. Oregon is going to beat them by 40 in the PopTart Bowl. Over all day here, it’s less than 40 points! I really want OU to lose this game. I am taking LSU to win +370.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn celebrates after his team beat No. 1 Alabama in the Iron Bowl.

FSU v. Florida -1.5 [O/U 48.5]

I like the Gus Bus. FSU to cover -5.5 pays +164.

Auburn football: The best photos from Cam Coleman's freshman year

Alabama -5.5 v. Auburn [O/U 46.5]

My favorite Iron Bowl memory would be rolling a house because they had a Bama flag in high school. Going to church and over hearing them discuss why someone would roll them. Note I grew up in North Louisiana.

Not getting into night game lore and all that… Auburn’s defense is going to have to be lights out. Kicking will have to be on point like Al Del Greco or Anders. Gonna look alot like Bama v OU. Bama is in the CFP regardless of the outcome. They are, if you disagree reread the opening paragraph. Bama will keep ND out. Which is good for us, SEC makes more money on a 6 win Auburn with its biggest brand Bama in the CFP. Bama money line is -210, Auburn moneyline is +176. The spread sits less than a TD. THOSE DO NOT JIVE. Of course I’m taking Auburn. I am taking them +5.5, -5.5 paying +290, and the over.

Happy Iron Bowl everyone.
