From the Other Sideline – Missouri

Nate Edwards was born and raised in Columbia, MO, graduated from the University of Missouri, and has been covering the football team for Rock M Nation since 2019. You can follow him @NateGEdwards on any of the socials as well as read his work on rockmnation.com, or watch his stupid face talk on the YouTube Channel, @RockMRadio. You’re going to hate him. Seriously.

1. What is a Missouri fan’s first thought of Auburn football at this exact moment?

There’s some leftover vitriol over the loss in the 2013 SEC championship game but, for the most part, Mizzou fans don’t have a lot of reason to think about Auburn. If you like deer hunting we can be fast friends, though.

2. Does the football team remember where their suitcases are considering they haven’t left their stadium THE ENTIRE SEASON?!

Sure we do, it’s located right under your mom’s bed.

3. Who are your two favorite Auburn Tigers of all time and why?

That’s a tough one, there’s too many to pick. Charles Barkley is one of my favorite sports-talking personalities. Bo Jackson is a Greek demigod. Cam Newton is the single greatest college football player/hat connoisseur of all time. Eugene Sledge wrote my favorite war memoirs. Elmo Shropshire penned the greatest Christmas song of all time. And who could forget Gianna Dior? Lots to pick from.

4. Name two Missouri Tigers that Auburn fans should look out for and why?

Ahmad Hardy is our bellcow running back. He didn’t get many opportunities to run the ball last week so he’s going to be rested and pissed off to run some dudes over. Also, Damon Wilson at edge rusher is a guy who generates a ton of pressure and is currently projected to be a 1st round draft pick.

5. Which two Auburn Tigers scare you the most and why?

Cam Coleman has a terrible catch rate but is a constant threat to explode a defense and is my biggest worry for this game. Keyron Crawford is the same for your defense: constant threat to ruin everything.

6. Where will each team have an advantage over the other?

Not sure there is one. This game is a rare “strength on strength/weak on weak” game. Mizzou excels at running the ball, Auburn excels at stopping it. Your offense is overly reliant on generating explosive plays, Mizzou’s defense only gives up massive amounts of explosive plays.

7. Which matchup will decide the game?

The obvious answer is the line play because this is the SEC. But, instead, if you’re looking for a stat indicator that one side is winning, look at Mizzou’s number of plays run and time of possession. Alabama nullified Mizzou on 3rd downs and kept our offense on the bench. Typically, Mizzou enjoys a 10-15 minute TOP advantage and a +20 plays run advantage in their wins. If they can do that here I’d nearly guarantee a W.

8. What is your analysis/score prediction for the game?

First to 17 wins.

9. Where will Auburn and Missouri end up this season?

Well I hope you all can make it to a bowl game but that seems to be dependent on firing Hugh Freeze first. Hopefully we can help out and add another data point to that decision matrix for you. On our end, I’m seeing either 8 or 9 wins. Wouldn’t disagree with more, though.

10. What do you think about Hugh Freeze?

I think Freeze is a charlatan and a pharisee and any opportunity that brings massive amounts of unhappiness to his person has been well earned by his choices in life. I hope he and his human garbage bag DC spend the rest of their lives eating cold steaks and stubbing their toes on every table they walk by.
