After a passing grade in 2024, it would be easy to take a victory lap and loaf this season. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but we’re taking it seriously this year. I’m shooting for 80% like the good ol’ days.
Last Season: 110-45 (71.0%)
This Week: 0-0 (0.0%)
Overall: 0-0 (0.0%)
This could possibly be the best Week 1 in history, in terms of ranked matchups and just general big name matchups. As we started to notice last year, there aren’t too many big games throughout the season that don’t include an SEC team.
9/28
Central Arkansas at Missouri – The Missouri Tigers start us all off with a banger. They’ll struggle for wins this year, so it takes a team called Central Arkansas to start off with a victory.
Missouri 38, Central Arkansas 10
9/29
Auburn at Baylor – Check back later for my prediction in the game preview, but SPOILER ALERT: your jokes don’t matter, a huge difference in roster talent does.
9/30
Texas at Ohio State – Didn’t we just see this game? On top of that, we’re playing this one at 11am? What are we doing? Both teams usually start off slow. Both spent a lot of money and that’s the only reason they’re good. Who cares, really?
Ohio State 27, Texas 20
Syracuse at Tennessee – The Orange! THE ORANGE! ALL OF THE ORANGE! Syracuse hasn’t been good since they beat Auburn right after 9/11. Tennessee is going to be back to being mediocre again, but they’ll win this one pretty easily.
Tennessee 31, Syracuse 14
Mississippi State at Southern Miss – Oh no. They’re going to lose to Southern Miss, aren’t they? Ok nevermind, Southern Miss isn’t supposed to be very good. But this one is going to be stupid.
Mississippi State 28, Southern Miss 24
Toledo at Kentucky – The Wildcats are not going to be good this year, but like Missouri they are going to get them an easy win to start the season to hold the losing off for as long as they can.
Kentucky 34, Toledo 20
Marshall at Georgia – WE ARE… MARSHALL. We can always hope, right?
Georgia 41, Marshall 10
Alabama at Florida State – Now we’re into the games where we really have no clue how good teams will truly be. Florida State has the advantage of the home field with a brand new visiting quarterback coming in. This one has the makings of that views builder. Alabama will struggle for 3 quarters, and then get some timely turnover to win by 10.
Alabama 27, Florida State 17
Alabama A&M at Arkansas – That thing I said about Missouri and Kentucky? Yeah, same thing here.
Arkansas 48, Alabama A&M 7
Illinois State at Oklahoma – Illinois isn’t even a state! Wait… whatever. The Sooners will win easily and build their overhype even more.
Oklahoma 52, Illinois State 17
Long Island at Florida – Look, I’m pretty good with sports. I follow them a lot. I coach them a lot. I used to play them. But I have NEVER heard of Long Island having a football team. Florida should be lambasted for scheduling this.
Florida 63, Long Island 7
UTSA at Texas A&M – Wasn’t UTSA ranked last year? No, turns out that was a few years ago. Whatever, they’ll be a pushover for the future 8-4 Aggies of Texas A&M.
Texas A&M 34, UTSA 13
Charleston Southern at Vanderbilt – Diego Pavia will rush for 56 yards and start his own Heisman campaign after a monumental win over the Buccaneers (I had to look that up).
Vanderbilt 31, Charleston Southern 7
LSU at Clemson – The Battle of the We Want Them to be Good Like They Were 10 Years Ago’s will come down to the wire. Neither will be that great, neither will be that bad, but because it’s in primetime, it will be treated like the Super Bowl.
LSU 24, Clemson 21
Georgia State at Ole Miss – Well this ends the day with a whimper, doesn’t it?
Ole Miss 41, Georgia State 10
9/31
Virginia Tech at South Carolina – The Beamer Bowl. The Thursday Night Football Bowl. The Battle of the Overhyped Pregame Traditions Based Off a Semi-Recent Song Played Loudly During Pregame. Ok, that was a long name for a game. I don’t care. I just want one to lose. Luckily one will.
South Carolina 17, Virginia Tech 13
Other Games of Note
Georgia Tech at Colorado (9/29) – This has to be the last year of Deion at Colorado, right? He just stayed one year after his kids left to prove he wasn’t just because of them, right? Georgia Tech isn’t awful I don’t think. Colorado probably will be.
Georgia Tech 27, Colorado 14
Notre Dame at Miami – Notre Dame is typically overhyped. Miami is in a blooming state of overhype because they haven’t been awful recently and journalists wants the teams that were good when they were growing up to be good again. The home team wins.
Miami 31, Notre Dame 24
