The Auburn Emporium’s Pick Six – Week 2

After an exciting start to the college football season, Week 2 is here as a few schools begin conference play while will others continue non-conference play. Teams like Texas, Alabama, Clemson, and Notre Dame will be looking to rebound after suffering losses in week one.

My week one predictions did not go to well either. I was 3-3 to start the year. My losses last week were Clemson, Texas, and UCLA while my wins were Nebraska, Miami, and Georgia Tech. Here are my predictions for Week 2!

Iowa Hawkeyes @ No.16 Iowa State Cyclones | Saturday 11:00am CT on FOX

The annual rivalry between Iowa and Iowa State is renewed in Ames this year. Iowa State has already proven themselves this year with a big week 0 win over Kansas State. Meanwhile this game will show us just how good the Hawkeyes will be this year. I expect a low scoring game but I think Iowa State will prevail in this one by more than a touchdown. My Prediction: Iowa State

No.11 Illinois Illini @ Duke Blue Devils | Saturday 11:00am CT on ESPN

Illinois makes the trip to Tobacco Road to face the Duke Blue Devils. The Illini are hoping to continue their momentum from last season while many still have questions about just how good this team will be in 2025. Duke meanwhile hopes to play spoiler to their season. Illinois is a -3.5 according to ESPN Bet. I expect this to be a close and competitive game but Illinois will pull out the win. My Prediction: Illinois

Baylor Bears @ No.16 SMU Mustangs | Saturday 11:00am CT on CW Network

Baylor looks to bounce back from their week one loss against Auburn with a tough matchup with in-state foe SMU. The Mustangs are looking to make another run to the ACC championship game and possibly another College Football Playoff. Quarterback Kevin Jennings returns for the Mustangs this year and will be another running quarterback for the Bears defense to have to contain. Baylor had a hard time with Jackson Arnold last week and could have even more trouble with Jennings. The Bears were explosive through the air last week as Sawyer Robertson threw for 419 yards and three touchdowns. I expect a lot of points in this game but I think SMU comes away victorious in this one. My Prediction: SMU

Oklahoma State Cowboys @ No.6 Oregon Ducks | 2:30pm CT on CBS

Oklahoma State visits Eugene for a non-conference clash with the Oregon Ducks. A few years ago this game would be a big deal because Oklahoma State had one of the best offenses in the country, but recently that’s not the case anymore. The Cowboys are struggling; winning just one out of the last six games dating back to last season. Meanwhile Oregon’s high-flying offense lead by quarterback Dante Moore will look to back up their win over Montana State in Week One. I like Oregon to win this game by more than one touchdown. My Prediction: Oregon

No.12 Arizona State Sun Devils @ Mississippi State Bulldogs | 6:30pm CT on ESPN2

The 12th ranked Sun Devils travel to SEC country this week to face Mississippi State in Starkville this week. Arizona State’s coaches were picked this week ringing cowbells at practice to get their players used to hearing that noise on Saturday. The Sun Devils are coming into the year off the heels of a College Football Playoff appearance against Texas last year. The loss of running back Cam Scatteboo means new faces like Kyson and Ryleek Brown will have to step up. Sam Leavitt does return for another year which gives them experience at the quarterback position. I worry though about their ability to run the ball even against one of the SEC’s worst teams from a year ago. Mississippi State looked good in their away win over Southern Miss and I really think they will be fired up to play this game in front of their home crowd. I like the Bulldogs to pull off the upset. My Prediction: Mississippi State

No.15 Michigan Wolverines @ No.18 Oklahoma Sooners | 6:30pm CT on ABC

Finally the biggest game of the weekend features two college football powerhouses facing off in Norman.  This game will feature two of the best quarterbacks in Michigan’s Bryce Underwood and Oklahoma’s John Mateer. I think whichever quarterback can make more plays will help their team get the win. Both teams also feature strong defenses so I do think it will be a slugfest. I actually like Michigan in this game. I think their defense will slow down Oklahoma’s offense and that Bryce Underwood is able to make some plays late in the game to give the Wolverines the victory. My Prediction: Michigan
