beAU Knows: Same fAUns, Different Year

Yeah, I’ve seen enough, and no, this isn’t about the football team or Payton Thorne. This is about you. This is about the angry fans that feel like they know a situation that they are completely unaware of because they are angry. If you post things on social media and hive-minded angry hatred agrees with you, it doesn’t mean you’re making sense. It means those people are also idiots. I’m sorry, but the truth hurts.

I’ve seen the same people with the same terrible takes year after year and it’s simply pathetic at this point. We saw it with Joey Gatewood. We saw it again with TJ Finley and Robby Ashford. How dare you for even trying to do this again after being so terribly wrong the times before.

Just a quick reminder, Joey Gatewood ended up playing backup tight end at UCF. TJ Finley is at his fourth college. Robby Ashford lost the starting job to a true freshman that wears goggles at South Carolina. Oh, and Bo Nix is starting for the Denver Broncos as a rookie. Oops, yeah, you know who you are. You were wrong then, and you’re wrong now. Again.

“You don’t know ball” has become quite a trendy thing to say these days. It truly blows my mind how few of the college football fan base truly doesn’t understand scheme and what all has to take place for plays to work. I really don’t need to hear people that never played past high school, if even that far, to try to act like their football opinion is relevant to the team.

You’ve never played at a high level, you’ve never coached at a high level, but buddy you sure do know that the backup quarterback is better than the guy starting. Disregard the coaching staff that are with these guys several hours every day, we want to hear what frat boy Chad has to say on the subject. Yeah, you can take that spoiled anger somewhere else, you’re owed nothing by Auburn and matter nothing to Auburn I can assure you.

Let’s talk about expectations. This was always a 7, maybe 8-win Auburn team. Yes, we have a lot of recruiting momentum, but those guys are either true freshman or still in high school. Unfortunately for a lot of simpletons, recruiting momentum doesn’t carry over to the field in what is essentially year one of Freeze having “his guys.”

If you’ll remember, he only had about three weeks to put together his 2023 signing class. With that being said, those 7-8 wins aren’t off the table yet, so pump the breaks and step off the ledge for now. If you thought we were some dark horse coming into this season, some 9, maybe 10-win team, that’s on you. Your expectations being incorrect is a you problem and no fault of Auburn’s.

I’ll end by saying this, Payton Thorne absolutely needs to take some blame for the nightmare that took place Saturday in Jordan Hare. The offensive line needs to take a significant amount of blame. This coaching staff needs to take some blame. It was a complete offensive failure and by no means the fault of one guy.

Thorne probably isn’t as good as he looked against Alabama A&M, but he’s not as bad as he looked against California, either. Hank Brown may be a good quarterback, but YOU don’t’ know that. You’ve seen him throw about seven passes in your life, but you know for a fact he’s better than the guy the coaching staff says is the guy.

Maybe swallow some pride and don’t let your anger say things that make no sense. We have to get out of this “I don’t like this; I don’t want this guy anymore” mindset as if there is success right around the corner. Your opinion is irrelevant.

Look at all the other backup quarterbacks you wanted. How’d they work out?
