The Pregame Blogle: Auburn at Ole Miss
Georgia felt good. LSU did not. The stadium was ripe for a win at 11am, but it appeared the team was not. Now, we get to go to another team’s stadium before noon. Let’s hope the home team plays the same way Auburn did last week.
😐 HOW I’M FEELING
I don’t know. I’ve seen a surprising amount of people pick Auburn, or at least pick Auburn to maybe get the upset. Ole Miss didn’t look great at Texas, but then made it close. They didn’t look great because their quarterback threw three interceptions. Their running back is out. Auburm has already beaten a team better than Ole Miss on the road, so maybe that’s what people are seeing. I expected “Awbren ain’t gunna ween anuther’n” after last week’s loss. But maybe the schizo nature of this season as a whole has people thinking.
🤷 WHAT WE ACTUALLY KNOW
Nothing, really. We somewhat know what teams are capable of, but we also know every team is capable of a bad or unexpected loss. Literally every team.
👀 WHAT I WANT TO SEE
I want to see the Georgia performance in Oxford. Ole Miss is not as good as Georgia, and Auburn has already proven that they have it in them to beat a team better than Ole Miss, also on the road. I want to see the run game to at least return to Athens levels. I want to see more interceptions thrown by a guy that shouldn’t still be playing college football. I want Auburn to give the first firm push to send Ole Miss back where they will be not too far into the future.
🥱 THE STORYLINE I’M ALREADY TIRED OF
“Auburn’s win over Georgia was obviously a fluke.” If anything is obvious this year, it’s that the transfer portal has evened out the level of talent across the landscape of college football. There are better players spread around every team instead of being stuck on the bench behind another better player. Was Florida’s win over Auburn a fluke because they also got destroyed by Missouri and South Carolina?
🦅 RANDOM OPPONENT THING
I’ve already given you a few quirky Ole Miss things, but here’s a free one:
Borrowed School Colors. Ole Miss chose Harvard’s crimson and Yale’s blue back in 1893 because they thought the combination looked good. Nothing screams Mississippi quite like pretending to be two Ivy League schools.
📈 BLOGLE CONFIDENCE METER
5.4 out of 10 — I don’t like road games, regardless of how early or small their stadium is, and last week happened, so my confidence might be lower than you’d expect. This is the lowest confidence I’ll have for any Ole Miss game ever again.
🔒 ONE THING I GUARANTEE
Ole Miss fans will be the cockiest group of people to ever follow a perennial mid-level-at-best program.
🎯 THE PICK
Auburn 27, Ole Miss 21
Road Auburn shows up. Ole Miss can’t stop the run. Ole Miss can’t stop throwing interceptions. Ole Miss is Ole Miss.
