Early candidates for Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year

The 2019 baseball season saw the New York Mets Pete Alonso take home the National League Rookie of the Year honors while the American League award went to Houston Astros player Yordan Alvarez. Major League Baseball will see a number of teams potentially field rookie players this season. Teams report to spring training this month and the first pitch of 2020 is just around the corner. Baseball fans can read the Bwin review and receive bet bonuses before wagering on their favorite teams on opening day.

Some players have already turned heads and are expected to make big league rosters when teams break camp. Not every team has an opening on its roster for a young prospect. However, there should be some to break into the starting line-ups of teams around Major League Baseball. Here is a look at three players that could win Rookie of the Year honors in 2020.

Nate Pearson – Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Nate Pearson is listed as Major League Baseball’s No. 10 prospect of the top 100. Pearson is a hard throwing right-handed pitcher and is incredibly young at just 23. Baseball America has Pearson listed as the Blue Jays’ fourth-best prospect in the farm system heading into spring training. Toronto finished 36 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East in 2019. Pearson could make the big league roster in spring training and give the Blue Jays a youthful starting pitcher in the most difficult division in baseball,

Luis Robert – Chicago White Sox

Major League Baseball has listed Luis Robert as the No. 3 prospect heading into the new season. Robert is a Cuban-born player that competed on the country’s national team in 2016 before defecting to the United States. In 2018, Robert debuted in spring training for the White Sox by hitting a grand slam in his first at bat. Chicago has brought the outfielder along slowly but injuries have also taken a toll on him. He is considered a five-tool player, which is perfect for a White Sox team that finished the 2019 season 28.5 games out of first place in the AL Central.

Gavin Lux – Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have produced a number of baseball greats and rookie of the year players since their inception. In fact, the Dodgers have produced the most Rookie of the Year award winners (18) including Jackie Robinson, Fernando Valenzuela, Eric Karros, Mike Piazza, and Raul Mondesi. Between 1992 and 1996, the Dodgers won five straight NL Rookie of the Year awards. Now, shortstop/second baseman Gavin Lux could be the franchise’s latest rookie phenom. Lux was called up to the Dodgers at the tail end of last season and even had nine postseason at-bats. The problem for Lux is the quality of players the Dodgers already have on the roster. Los Angeles could move a player to give the youngster a chance after he showed he is more than ready for an everyday place in the line-up.
