Fairley’s Iron Bowl Sack/Fumble Recovery on Jay Leno

No this is not a re-post from 2010. This is 2013, and all facts and details come from an incident on July 9th, 2013; three years after the material referenced below.

During a recent rewatch of the 2010 Iron Bowl (You probably don’t remember it, but Auburn was down 24-0 and came back to win 28-27. It was amazing. You should pull it up sometime.), I tweeted that Nick Fairley’s sack of Greg McElroy and subsequent fumble recovery was one of the most athletic plays in the history of the universe. Well, it took three years, but the enormity of this play has finally made it to the West coast.

Last night, in one of Jay Leno’s pre-guest bits, the famed play (with play-by-play from Rod Bramblett) was used along with a video of a dog tackling a young child and stealing his ball. That Jay! Here’s the bit:

I can honestly say that I never thought I would hear “MCELROY GOT WHACKED!” on The Tonight Show, but now that I have, I can say it was delightful.

Thanks to @Tigg5454 for the heads up.

Only thing that could’ve made that better? A “War Eagle!” from Leno at the end. Conan woulda done it…
