It felt like a lot of Arkansas games. Auburn played well, some stupid happened that let the home team get back in it, and then the better team (Auburn) won.
It was a little rainy, the crowd was light, and Auburn went right down the field and scored on the 1st drive. It would be the last touchdown they scored for the day. Yes, Auburn scored 33 points on the road with only 1 offensive touchdown.
Does it matter? No. Auburn won.
Fans with an agenda have decided to pretend that each side of the ball is a separate team. It’s how they justify what they think should happen. Here’s the reality: Auburn won.
Alex McPherson had a lot to do with it. A week after he missed 3 field goals, he went 6-for-6. The last Auburn kicker to do that was Daniel Carlson with 6 field goals against LSU. It was the only points Auburn scored that day. I don’t remember anybody complaining that the offense didn’t play well. They were happy Auburn won.
In another Auburn-LSU game, John Vaughn missed 5 field goals in a loss. Later that season, he kicked the game winner over Georgia. I remember saying it was sweet redemption. The next day I opened the newspaper to find the headline said the same. It was also sweet redemption for McPherson. You see that connection I made there?
McPherson, 6 field goals, Carlson also 6 field goals, against LSU, John Vaughn missed 5 fields against LSU, but made a game-winner later that season, which was sweet redemption, which is what McPherson had Saturday. It’s the Circle of Life.

As if Auburn’s wins don’t count if the defense helps, fans have found a way to downplay the win because Auburn ended up with 4 interceptions, with 1 being a pick-6. Truthfully, 2 of the interceptions didn’t have much to do with Auburn’s win, but let’s act like wins don’t count “if it wasn’t for the defense.”
Get over yourself.
Auburn went on the road, played an Arkansas team that had just lost to #3 Texas A&M and #17 Tennessee by 3 points each. Auburn held them below their average, scored as many points as Tennessee did, and did everything it took to win by 9 points.
How they won doesn’t matter. It’s all we hear. “It’s not that we lost, it’s how we lost.” “It’s not that we won, it’s how we won.” What is the point of sports? To win the game. That’s it. And that’s what Auburn did.
Auburn now gets to go back home and host one of the other lesser SEC teams. Win that one and Auburn has a winning record, one win away from a bowl game.
Read that and then read what people have said about Auburn the last 4 weeks. “The officiating was so bad an official got suspended, but it doesn’t matter.” “Auburn barely lost on the road to a Top 10 team, but it wasn’t that they lost, it’s how they lost.” “Auburn beat Arkansas, but the offense wasn’t great.”
Everybody hates hearing “we’re so close,” but there’s nothing more true. Losing by 6 is not losing by 60 as some act. Auburn has been very close to winning every single game they’ve lost.
Whatever. Auburn is 4-4, and could win the rest. Enjoy football season. Watch games. Have fun.
