The Pregame Blogle: Arkansas at Auburn
Since the bye week, Auburn’s schedule alternates home-away-home-away-home-away. Isn’t that fun? We get the Tigers at home this weekend and get to play at 11:45 am after the last home game was at 11am. What a schedule! I talked about it this week.
😤 HOW I’M FEELING
I might be the most confident fan after two somewhat blowouts losses you’ll ever see this week. Arkansas isn’t good. They’ve looked decent recently and a win over Vanderbilt gave them a little hope, but this sorta feels like an opportunity for Auburn to supremely flush the last two weeks and remind people that decent football teams are going to lose games sometimes. Especially this year.
🤷 WHAT WE ACTUALLY KNOW
We know Auburn is better than Arkansas. Auburn has the best win in the nation, but played one bad quarter against LSU and Ole Miss that let the games get away. Arkansas’s claim to fame this year is beating Vanderbilt and Tulsa.
👀 WHAT I WANT TO SEE
I want to see a blowout. This series is full of really stupid shootouts or Auburn destroying Arkansas. I mean, Gus (and even Hugh that one time) really liked putting it on the Razorbacks. That’s what I want to see.
🥱 THE STORYLINE I’M ALREADY TIRED OF
“This is a trap game for Auburn.” I seriously saw someone say this on Twitter, and a few people agreed with him. Auburn just lost by 50 points and has two SEC home losses already this season. In what world would this be a trap game? Should Auburn beat Arkansas? Yes. Do you think Alex Golesh thinks he can walk into any stadium right now and fall into the trap of thinking it’s going to be easy? Go watch something else.
🦅 RANDOM OPPONENT THING
I’ve already given you a few quirky Arkansas things, but here’s a free one:
They Used to Be the Cardinals. Arkansas wasn’t always the Razorbacks. They were originally the Cardinals until coach Hugo Bezdek described his team as a wild band of razorback hogs after beating LSU in 1909. Students voted to change the nickname in 1910. They willingly traded a bird for a pig.
📈 BLOGLE CONFIDENCE METER
9.4 out of 10 — I just have that feeling. It’s a team that Auburn can exorcise some demons against. It’s at home. It has the makings.
🔒 ONE THING I GUARANTEE
There will be a special teams touchdown of some kind.
Bonus: If Arkansas’s quarterback gets hurt, the backup will look like a Heisman candidate for at least a quarter.
🎯 THE PICK
Auburn 42, Arkansas 21
I’m giving the Razorbacks a few more points than you’d think, but there’s always something annoyingly stupid that happens when Auburn plays Arkansas.
