The Ole Miss Review: Not as Bad as it Ended

After an unenthusiastic showing against LSU, Auburn got to go on the road to play another Top 20 team in the worst October schedule in the history of football.

🥺 HOW I’M FEELING

Well the final score was worse, but I somehow feel better than I did after the LSU game. Maybe because there were some big plays and actual ball movement on the offensive side of the ball. And until the dam broke, it was an actual competitive football game 62% of the way.

👍 WHAT I LIKED

I liked that the score was 14-9 at halftime. I liked that Auburn converted some scary 3rd downs. I liked that the Auburn defense wasn’t Swiss cheese until they became Swiss cheese in the 4th quarter. I know the final score was stupid, but the game was way less stupid than how it ended.

👎 WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE

I didn’t like that the offensive line still allows for almost nothing, and when they do, they always seem to commit a pre-snap penalty that kills it all. I also didn’t like the aforementioned Swiss cheese. It made Ole Miss look like they destroyed Auburn all game, and they definitely didn’t.

👀 WHO STOOD OUT

Chas Nimrod continues to be there exactly when needed. He’s semi-quietly having an awesome year in terms of Auburn wide receivership.

🤔 STILL THINKING ABOUT…

That fair catch call that seemingly flipped the game. It’s a dumb rule, but it seems to have been the correct call. The T-signal that Pleasant gave is seen as giving up on returning the ball. It has been used by teams for years and now comes with a rule that if you show the T-signal, you are not allowed to return the kick. The problem is he did it way too early and when the ball wasn’t kicked to him. I think the rule needs changes, but it is the rule. And after it happened, the game was completely different.

😬 STILL WORRIED ABOUT…

The offensive line. It will always be the offensive line this season.

📈 DID ANYTHING CHANGE?

There was some fight against a potential playoff team on the road. I guess we can say things changed from the direness of the LSU game back towards the mean.

🏆 THE BLOGLE GAME BALL

Me. I had some good tweets during the game.

➡️ WHAT’S NEXT

Arkansas visits the Plains for yet another pre-Noon kickoff. They aren’t good, but Arkansas games are either blowouts or very stupidly close. Let’s hope for the blowout.
