The Pregame Blogle: LSU at Auburn
Auburn returns home for their only October game inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. If things had gone differently last week, the 11 AM start would’ve been stark. But it didn’t go differently. Let’s beat LSU in the morning.
😁 HOW I’M FEELING
There isn’t much better than beating #1 Georgia at their place the week after they beat Alabama. If A > B and B > C, therefore A > C. That’s how it works, right? Nobody gave Auburn a chance and they lined up and beat Georgia. Just like EVERY football game known to man, the team that makes the most plays and makes the least amount of mistakes usually wins the game. And that’s exactly what happened. Oh, this is about LSU? I feel good about that, too.
🤷 WHAT WE ACTUALLY KNOW
We know that Auburn is nowhere near as bad as some wanted you to believe after two losses to ranked teams, one on the road. We also have to know that beating #1 at their place doesn’t give you any sort of championship and there’s still plenty of work to be done. But we now know that Auburn could and can beat anybody. And that includes LSU in Jordan-Hare.
👀 WHAT I WANT TO SEE
I want to see Auburn’s offense continue to be able to run the ball. LSU has a good defense and they are basically coming off a bye (31-0 against Mississippi State), so they’ll know exactly what Auburn did to be able to move the ball on Georgia. I want to see Auburn’s defense not allow wide open passes like every Auburn team has for all of time. If anybody knows how to get wide receivers open, it’s Lane Kiffin. I want to see Lane mad.
🥱 THE STORYLINE I’M ALREADY TIRED OF
“This will be a letdown game for Auburn.” As I said in this week’s Blogle Boys Podcast and War Blogle Podcast, Golesh and Auburn have seen letdown games all over the conference all season. They know last week was huge, but now everybody expects to see the universe correct itself and allow LSU to blow them out. There’s no sitting back and just letting teams come in and lose to Auburn. This feels like a tearing of the veil, and now Auburn has seen that they can win big football games. It feels like the complete opposite of a letdown opportunity to me.
🦅 RANDOM OPPONENT THING
I’ve already given you a few quirky LSU things, but here’s a free one:
Their Governor Threatened to Dip Elephants: Huey Long reportedly threatened to enforce Louisiana’s flea-dipping law on circus elephants because their parade might compete with an LSU football game. LSU football has apparently always required government intervention.
📈 BLOGLE CONFIDENCE METER
6.8 out of 10 — I am not scared of LSU and Lane Kiffin. I’ve seen them lose to Kentucky. But really, Saturday is going to be the loudest, most excited 11 AM game in Jordan-Hare history. LSU has players and a play-caller, but I think last week was an awakening rather than a hopeless fluke.
🔒 ONE THING I GUARANTEE
Elijah Melendez will have two sacks, one causing a fumble that’s scooped up and run in for a touchdown by Cody Sigler.
Extra guarantee: something really stupid will happen.
🎯 THE PICK
Auburn 28, LSU 23
It will be bright and early and loud. Moving the ball won’t be as easy as it was at times in Athens, but it will be enough. Auburn will make a 4th-quarter stop and Lane will throw his play sheet. Top 15 incoming?
