The Georgia Review: A Doggone Good Day
As I expected, Auburn went on the road and beat #1 Georgia. It was a good day. It was a great day. It was a doggone good day.
😩 HOW I’M FEELING
The only thing that would feel better is beating Alabama in the same way on the same day. It was a foregone conclusion that Georgia was going to destroy Auburn. After two drives, it looked like it might happen, but I think that worked in Auburn’s favor. Georgia believed the hype and thought the whole day was going to go like the first half of the first quarter. Nope.
Seriously, it is a really, really good feeling for many reasons.
👍 WHAT I LIKED
Everything? Sure, going down 14 points momentarily felt bad at the time, but it made everything that happened after it even better. I liked how well Auburn ran the ball, even the running backs. Despite an early drop and really bad bomb drop, the receivers were legit. Before, during, and after the catch. One of them even threw his 2nd touchdown of the season. Oh, and I would die on the field for Elijah Melendez. I love him.
👎 WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
The constant mentions of Georgia being tired. They’re playing big boy football, and their murderer’s row leading up to this game was Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Alabama. Wow. Such bad. So hard. When did we start making so many excuses for the untouchable Kirby Smart and his tired dawgs?
👀 WHO STOOD OUT
Byrum Brown again? Sure, but let’s do another one. Elijah Melendez had a pick, a million tackles, and a sack. It feels like Nick Fairley is back and he decided to start playing linebacker. He had to step up due to the absence of another linebacker that apparently wouldn’t die on the field for the win, and it actually got better?
🤔 STILL THINKING ABOUT…
That Chas Nimrod catch. He was falling backwards. He had his arms around the Georgia defender, and then still caught it with one hand. It was better than Prothro’s catch. Somehow it was only #6 on SportsCenter’s Top 10. Sure.
😬 STILL WORRIED ABOUT…
I don’t know. Sure, about everything went well for Auburn at some point, and it won’t stay that way. I guess I’m still worried a little about the intermediate passing defense. Georgia could do it all day when they weren’t fumbling or late-hitting the quarterback. It just always seems to be there. But Auburn’s offense also got in on that action and it worked as well.
📈 DID ANYTHING CHANGE?
Everything. Now it looks like Auburn can win every game. If you can go on the road to Athens, where maybe better Auburn teams haven’t won since 2006, and push Georgia around, you have proven it can be done. Does it mean it will happen every week? No, but it can. Now the world thinks positive things about Auburn. It’s all different.
🏆 THE BLOGLE GAME BALL
It’s easy to give it to Alex McPherson, but that’s too obvious. Byrum Brown was a beast. He outrushed Georgia by himself. He had no turnovers. He constantly got out of sacks. He’s the biggest reason Auburn won the football game in Athens.
➡️ WHAT’S NEXT
LSU… in Auburn… at 11am. For some dumb reason. If this game was at LSU we’d be playing at midnight on Halloween. That said, it will be the loudest 11am game in college football history because of what just happened and because people now see LSU as a winnable game. Do that, and we might be thinking special things.
