Interesting Tidbits on Football, Koivun, Aurea’s Injury, and Takeo
Football is on a bye week, which gives us time to get some chores done and take a look outside of the pigskin. Check out the bits…
⛳ TGL KOIVUN
Jackson Koivun is headed to TGL at 21 years old. The former Tiger officially joined the expansion Motor City Golf Club Monday and will team up with five time major champion Brooks Koepka for the 2027 season. Not a bad few months for Koivun.
🏀 PRO DAY
Auburn basketball will hold its annual Pro Day Thursday inside Neville Arena with NBA scouts in attendance. It kicks off a busy stretch for Auburn basketball with SEC Media Days next week and then the exhibitions against Florida State, Alabama and Samford. Additionally Pearl is still waiting on a ruling from the NCAA on 2 players. Basketball season is almost here.
⚾ FALL BALL
Auburn baseball gets its first real look at the 2027 team this week with two pretty good fall matchups. Auburn faces Mississippi State Thursday night in Biloxi (after a reschedule due to the potential hurricane/ tropical storm) before heading over to Pensacola to play Florida State Saturday (which is likely to be impacted by weather too). Football may be off this weekend, but there’s still some Auburn to watch.
🏈 RECRUITING
Four star 2027 Auburn WR commit DeShawn Hall had a simple response when asked about Alabama, Kentucky and Vanderbilt continuing to recruit him “If it’s not on the Plains, I’m not going.” Hall is ranked as a top 150 player nationally and one of the top 10 players in Alabama. That’s a start.
🏈 BYE WEEK FIXES
Auburn hits the bye week at 3-2 after falling 24-14 at Tennessee. The defense continues to give Auburn chances, but the offense just hasn’t done enough (to put it mildly). Alex Golesh has two weeks to figure a lot to figure out before the Tigers head to Athens, including O line, run game, protecting the football, playcalling, penalties and better QB decision making.
🏈 THAT’S EATING AT GOLESH
Alex Golesh admitted Monday that Auburn’s offensive struggles are getting to him a little bit. Golesh said not having the answers offensively that he’s accustomed to having is “the part that eats at me.” It seems Golesh is just as shocked as everyone else how bad it’s looked on the offensive side of the ball.
🏈 FINALLY SOME GOOD INJURY NEWS
Auburn enters the bye week relatively healthy after five games. Golesh said Monday that Auburn avoided any significant injuries against Tennessee. Tai Buster has also started his on field running progression, although he’s still a couple weeks away from potentially getting back into the rotation at a position that desperately needs help.
🏈 DEEP SOUTH’S OLDEST RIVALRY
Auburn’s trip to Georgia on October 17 will kick off at 2:30 CT. The TV network will be decided after this weekend’s games. Auburn has lost nine straight to Georgia and hasn’t won in Athens since 2005. It’s a tall task for the way this team is currently playing.
🦅 WAR EAGLE VIII
In case you missed it last week, Auburn announced that Aurea, better known as War Eagle VIII, will likely miss pregame flights for the 2026 season while recovering from a foot injury. Independence will continue handling the pregame flights at Jordan-Hare while Aurea recovers. Wishing a speedy recovery for Aurea!
🏈 TAKEO
Takeo Spikes was named the No. 10 player on the Independence Bowl’s 50th Anniversary All Time Team Tuesday. Spikes had 12 tackles and was Co Defensive Player of the Game in Auburn’s 32-29 win over Army in the 1996 Independence Bowl before going on to become an All American and play 15 years in the NFL.
