Interesting Tidbits on Football, Espionage, Golf, B’ball, and Weird Al?
The bits are officially back, and there’s a bunch. Let’s get to them.
⛳ PRESIDENT KOIVUN
What a week for the former Tiger and most decorated collegiate golfer in NCAA history, Jackson Koivun. The 21 year old went 2-0-1 and was the only player at the Presidents Cup to not lose a match, including a comeback win on Sunday as Team USA rallied to win its 11th straight Presidents Cup. Koivun will be a force in golf for a very long time and some are predicting a monster 2027 season.
🕵️ ESPIONAGE ON THE PLAINS?
Here’s a story that wasn’t on your bingo card for Tennessee week. Former Auburn football staffer David Jenrath was arrested Monday on felony charges after allegedly stealing confidential recruiting information and sending it to as many as 11 other schools. This is a story that will continue to develop over the coming days and weeks.
🎤 LET’S GET WEIRD
Weird Al Yankovic is brought his Bigger & Weirder Tour to the Gogue Performing Arts Center Tuesday night. This one wasn’t on my bingo card either.
🏈 35 STRAIGHT HOMECOMINGS
The Vanderbilt win wasn’t pretty, but it extended Auburn’s ridiculous Homecoming winning streak to 35 consecutive games. The blocked punt TD ended up being the difference in a 21-15 win.
🏈 OFFENSE NEEDS TO WAKE UP
Auburn escaped Vanderbilt with a win, but 279 yards of offense and 14 offensive points probably won’t get it done in Knoxville or any game in October for that matter. The Tigers have to find a consistent run game and get Byrum Brown involved in designed runs earlier and often.
🏀 PEARL GETS 2027 COMMIT
Four star point guard Jason Gardner Jr. committed to Auburn yesterday, becoming Steven Pearl’s first commitment of the 2027 class. He’s a consensus top 100 prospect, chose Auburn over Florida, Indiana, Stanford and DePaul and said Auburn made him its top priority in the entire class.
🏀 BARKLEY
Charles Barkley was back in Auburn yesterday for the 11th annual Bruce, Barkley & Basketball Golf Classic with Bruce and Steven Pearl. Barkley confirmed this will be his 27th and final season on Inside the NBA, but stressed that this would free him up to get down to Auburn more often.
⛳ NUMBER 1
Auburn men’s golf entered the week ranked No. 1 in the country and then went out Monday and grabbed the lead at the Ben Hogan Collegiate at Colonial. Auburn finished 36 holes at 6-under, sitting atop the field heading into today’s final round
🏇 HORSES
No. 3 Auburn equestrian absolutely smoked Bridgewater 10-0 Friday. Auburn had also beaten Lynchburg in its home opener Thursday. Starting off undefeated is nice.
⚽ SOCCER DEFENSE
Even after Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Arkansas, Auburn women’s soccer has surrendered only three goals through 11 matches, the fewest in program history over that span of time. Now No. 9 Tennessee comes to Auburn Thursday night for a nationally televised match on SEC Network.
