Auburn Baseball Powers Past Nebraska, Samford on Deck

After a walk off winner in the midweek versus west Georgia, Auburn baseball was able to pick up a nice series win against Nebraska. The lone loss of the series came in game 1 as the Tigers suffered a 9-8 extra innings loss, however in their two wins they averaged a little over 13 runs in a powerful offensive performance.

Jake Marciano continued his incredible form as over five innings pitched; he set nine batters down on strikes while not issuing any walks and surrendering only two runs. Bristol Carter was the star at the dish as he went 2-6 and drove in two as well.

Super sophomore Chris Rembert made his return in game 1 as DH but in game 2 he started back at his usual 2nd  base spot and did damage as he went with 1-3 with 3 RBI and a ringing double that nearly was a homerun to left center. Freshman outfielder Mason McCraine led the way at the plate though going 4-5 and driving in six runs via a double dose of two RBI singles and a two-run homerun which ended up run ruling the Cornhuskers 15-4. Jackson Sanders and Christian Chatterton combined to strike out 10, walk one each, with Sanders giving up 4 in his 4 1/3 innings pitched.

In the rubber match of the series Chase Fralick led the way as he lifted the Tigers with a 2-4 effort and a three-run homer in the 2nd as Auburn ran away with a 12-3 victory. Northern Illinois transfer Logan Gregorio also had a nice contribution as he lined a two RBI single into left field.

Butch Thompson employed four hurlers in the final game as Alex Petrovic picked up his third win of the season as he fanned seven and walked two over five solid innings of work. Western Kentucky transfer Drew Whalen continued to be nails out of the bullpen as he struck two out of four batters faced in his only inning of work.

Top Tiger: This weekend’s “Top Tiger” is none other than Mason McCraine. The Smiths Station native lit it up at the plate going 7-12 with 7 RBI, 1 homerun, and 3 walks on the weekend.

Auburn will host fellow in-state foes and perennial SOCON contenders Samford on Tuesday night with Big South conference hopefuls Winthrop flying down to take on the Tigers for the weekend. War Eagle!
