Auburn Men’s basketball sets their sights on the program’s first-ever National Championship. The Tigers came close in 2019 with an improbable run to the Final Four where they lost to Virginia.
Bruce Pearl’s team comes in as the #1 overall seed in the tournament and one of the favorites to cut down the nets in San Antonio.
The Tigers start out in Lexington, Kentucky facing in-state foe Alabama State from Montgomery. The Hornets won the SWAC Tournament and pulled out a narrow victory over St. Francis in the First Four.
Auburn comes into the matchup a huge favorite, but has lost three of their last four games. Those losses did come to tournament teams including Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. They now have a chance to make a statement to those who have started to doubt if they are championship material.
Auburn’s defense should be a problem for the Hornets who rank near the bottom in two-point shots made at just 45%. Alabama State allows 72 points per game while Auburn averages 83 points per game.
Tip-off for this game is at 1:50 Central time from Rupp Arena with coverage on CBS. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Louisville and Creighton in the 2nd round on Saturday.
