Coach Bruce Pearl sat down and spoke with the media following his team’s dismantling of Georgia State.
Opening Statement…
“I’ll start with Johni (Broome). Obviously, his right shoulder kind of came out. He came right back. He did it a year ago, so he’s had some experience with it. We will take a look tomorrow and tell you more, but we hope he is going to be okay. Other guys stepped up – 50 points off the bench. The most obvious is Chaney Johnson. He was dominant tonight. Chaney plays best against our most physical opponent. Georgia State plays hard and physical. They have some tough kids and Chaney always plays better in those situations. I’m really proud of him. Nobody works harder than Chaney. (Assistant Coach) Ira Bowman is in the gym with him all the time and they’ve created a really nice inside-out game. He hasn’t shot the ball from the perimeter yet. Wait until he can shoot it and we can get that aspect going.
I thought Turtle, Ja’Heim Hudson, did a really nice job coming in there in those minutes. Three assists and no turnovers, so we were able to run our offense with him out there. We will have to get him some more time as far as against Purdue (on Saturday). Denver (Jones) continues to shoot the ball, really, really well. But, defensively that was important to keep those guys down a little bit. They (Georgia State) averaged 75 and have some really good one-on-one players and run some good stuff. I thought our guys played some really good defense, turning them over 20 times, with the exception of getting beat on the boards a little too much. I thought it was a pretty solid effort.”
