For the 8th and final time in 2024, Auburn welcomes a team they should be able to beat to Jordan-Hare Stadium. For the first time in 2024, Auburn welcomes a team under the dark of night to Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Texas A&M Aggies are 8-2. They have been beaten by Notre Dame, who subsequently lost to Northern Illinois. They have been destroyed by South Carolina, who we all know is a mediocre team that lives off wins off Missouri and… Texas A&M.
The Aggies’ biggest wins were against, I guess, Missouri and LSU. Neither are nearly as good as their previous rankings or ESPN want you to believe. The Aggies’ saddest win came against Bowling Green, a 26-20 triumph in their home stadium.
I’m just trying to figure out why Auburn should be scared of this team from College Station.
Since it’s been determined that Texas A&M is not that great, they’ve beaten bad teams, barely beaten MAC teams, and have lost to mediocre teams, it’s time to look inward and see what Auburn has under their belt.
We’ve said it all year. Auburn has great stats. They are in the top half of the SEC in offense and even better at defense. Many of the losses are inexplicable. Many took one thing to happen to cause the loss and those things happened. Auburn has left 4-5 losses on the field. It is what it is, but if we’re comparing things besides final scores, Auburn is at worst equal, if not better than Texas A&M.
So then we have to look at the intangibles. Auburn is playing a night game in Jordan-Hare. It’s the last home game of the season. The Tigers are coming off a win, who cares who it was against, so there’s some positivity in the building.
Vegas has Texas A&M as a 2.5-point favorite. They are 8-2 and ranked #15. Auburn is 4-6 and won’t sniff a ranking. Somebody’s using logic and maybe notices those 8 wins aren’t much to talk about. Maybe somebody is using logic and knows Auburn isn’t as bad as 4-6, and more importantly has a night game at Jordan-Hare in front of a crowd, against a team, that doesn’t have much else to lose.
The last time the Aggies came into Jordan-Hare at night, they met a team playing under an interim coach. They left with a loss. These Aggies are probably better, but so is Auburn.
Texas A&M has one thing to play for. One more loss and they’re likely out of the Playoffs. If they win, they have Texas next. They’re all in the running for the SEC Championship Game.
It won’t matter. Auburn will, finally, get the one big win of the season. It can’t all go against them all season while not being a bad team.
It’s going to be under the lights, chilly, and fun. The Aggies aren’t ready. Auburn will play for fun and with nothing to lose.
Payton continues to protect the ball and throw touchdown passes. Jarquez scores two more touchdowns. Cam Coleman and KLS continue to feast. We get a proper 4th quarter swag surf. Auburn wins comfortably.
