TEAM HISTORY
The Vanderbilt Commodores are the collegiate football team representing Vanderbilt University.
They play for a school named after a wealthy American shipping magnate, hence the name Commodore, who donated money to start the school, but that’s the extent of the connection.
In other words, even the dude who started Vanderbilt didn’t care about Vanderbilt, and I assume that degree of allegiance would extend, as it has to alumni and students, to how he might feel about their football team.
SERIES HISTORY
Vanderbilt has the second-worst all-time winning percentage in the SEC. As a result, you might be tempted to think Auburn owns this series. In fact, that would be true from the time the two began playing more regularly starting in 1978 (AU leads 15-2), but the overall series is 22-21-1 favoring Auburn.
Vanderbilt pretty well had our number during the first half of the 20th century, but TV didn’t exist then and the mainstream is never to be trusted.
WHAT TO WATCH
Hugh learned last week what everyone outside of the program has known all along and that is we have a Jarquez Hunter (PROGRESS).
I would typically say, “that’s all you need to know” because it means we could rely on being more physical and finally RUNNING THE BALL consistently eventually letting depth take over and easily win the game.
The problem is that this year Vandy is good, and a QB in particular who had our number last year at New Mexico State.
We have a Jarquez Hunter and they have a Diego Pavia, which is another worst for Hugh’s Kryptonite/The Defroster/Antifreeze. He’s beaten Hugh Freeze’s teams 2 years running dating back to his time at Liberty.
Watch to see if our defense can handle his ability to scramble and turn a busted play into a spectacular one.
Watch the see if this game turns into a shootout, and if it does can we go blow for blow with another team given the way our offense has performed this season so far.
PREDICTION
Don’t ever take betting advice from me. I’m just a rabbit that picks with his heart and not with his head.
Auburn 21, Vandy 17
