Missouri Review: Is it Groundhog Day?

We’ve reached the point that there isn’t much else to say, so this will be short and sweet.

Auburn has been good enough all season to be a 1-loss team at worst. The Georgia game was even competitive. But somehow, some way, even with the incessant turnovers removed, the Tigers have found a way to do 1-2 things near the end of the games to lose the game.

It doesn’t mean they’re a bad football team. They’re just bad at finishing. They’re bad at doing whatever it takes to nullify the weird play, the bad luck, the whatever that keeps them from coming out with a win.

This weekend in Missouri, Auburn was easily the better team, even with their starting quarterback in there. But… a dropped touchdown pass, followed by a near chip shot field goal that was wide left, and that was it.

That’s it. There hasn’t been a blowout. There hasn’t been a wholly awful game. There have been 7 good attempts at winning that weeks’ game that has somehow been spoiled by the end of it.

It’s frustrating to many Auburn fans because it’s tough to build hope and optimism only to have it dashed away over and over. At this point, most fans would rather have 5 blowout losses than 4 close losses and a competitive loss.

So what do we do? We watch Auburn go to Kentucky and play a game they should win. At some point, one break has to go their way. I believe things have gotten better all season, but something has to show for it.
