TEAM HISTORY

The Arkansas Razorbacks are historically a better-than-average team. They claim 1 national title (1964) and 13 conference titles all of which occurred while they were members of the now-defunct SWC.

They’ve had good years and some very well-known football players, coaches, etc. such as Frank Broyles, Barry Switzer, Lou Holtz, Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Jones, and Darren McFadden. That’s quite a who’s who of folks involved in the game of football.

SERIES HISTORY

Auburn currently enjoys a 20-12 record all-time against Arkansas. This is one of those games that tends to feel more consequential than it actually ends up being.

It typically occurs early enough in the season to where conference implications are on the line for both teams, and the breaks usually tend to go Auburn’s way.

Arkansas has never won more than 2 in a row against Auburn while our longest winning streak against Arkansas stretched 6 games from 2016-2021.

WHAT TO WATCH

Well, we changed quarterbacks last week, and Hugh assured us that Hank Brown would continue to be the starter as we open conference play.

Hank’s stat line was solid (17/25, 235 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT) against a New Mexico defense that ranks in the bottom half of college football. A game against a team like New Mexico shouldn’t tell you much about your team unless it’s bad.

What worries me most is the defensive performance from last week. What felt like improvement against Cal seemed to regress against New Mexico. The scariest part about that is Auburn’s defense will be matching up against a Bobby Petrino-coached offense. Durkin and Petrino both coached at Texas A&M so they are familiar with each other, but having Bobby Petrino on the opposing sideline always makes me nervous especially considering how we looked last Saturday.

PREDICTION

I really don’t know how this one will shake out. My hope is our defense plays up to its potential. What worries me is if this comes down to a shootout. I don’t like picking against us especially at home so I won’t. I think it’ll be close.

Auburn 21, Arkansas 17
