The Emporium’s Outside the SEC Predictions – Week 2

Another weekend of college football is here and there are several good matchups across the country I’m looking forward to. Many eyes will be focused on the Texas-Michigan game, but here are five games you should watch for.

No. 23 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ Syracuse Orange | 11:00 a.m CT on ACC Network

After a 2-0 start to the season, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are looking like one of the contenders in thee ACC after upsetting Florida State in week 0. Hayes King has been the real deal at quarterback for the Jackets. His versatility in the passing and running game makes him a threat against any defense. As for Syracuse, they are 1-0 after a win over Ohio in week one. The Orange finished last season with a 6-7 record and are projected to finish 12th in the conference. I think this game will be close. Syracuse is a tough road game for any team, but I do think Georgia Tech will come out with the win. Georgia Tech 31 | Syracuse 24

No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats @ Tulane Green Wave | 11:00 a.m CT on ESPN

Tulane welcomes another power 5 team to New Orleans this weekend. The Green Wave played Ole Miss last season and almost came out with the win. The Kansas State Wildcats come into town looking to improve on their victory over UT Martin. Kansas State will be one of the contenders for the BIG 12 along with Utah and Oklahoma State. Meanwhile Tulane is in their first year under former Troy head coach Jon Sumrall. A win over a BIG 12 opponent would be monumental this early in the season. I think this game turns out to bee a major upset for Tulane. I think they have. enough offense to keep up with the Wildcats  and win a high scoring game. Tulane 41 | Kansas State 38

Iowa State Cyclones @ No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes | 2:30 p.m CT on CBS

The state of Iowa is divided tomorrow and the Hawkeyes and Cyclones face off yet again. Both teams are coming off victories in week one, but Hawkeye fans should be excited they put up 40 points. Last. year, Iowa averaged only 15 points per game, with their opponents averaging 14 points per game. I see this game being pretty one-sided with Iowa winning pretty easily. Iowa 27 | Iowa State 10

Colorado Buffaloes @ Nebraska Cornhuskers | 7:00 p.m. CT on NBC

It’s a classic matchup between two teams that used to play in the Big 8 back in the day. Colorado joins the BIG 12 this year looking to improve in year two under Deion Sanders. Meanwhile Nebraska has a lot of hype surrounding their team with freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola as their starter. I see lots of points in this game. Both teams have some great offenses, but I do think Nebraska’s home environment gives them an edge. Nebraska 35 | Colorado 27

Appalachian State Mountaineers @ No. 25 Clemson Tigers | 7:00 p.m. CT on ACC Network

Alright hear me out, I don’t expect an upset here, but any game involving Appalachian State and a power five school just feels very dangerous to me. The Mountaineers have been a part of several big upsets over the years. Clemson comes into this game after suffering a loss against the Georgia Bulldogs. I think this could be the perfect opportunity for App State to surprise people. I don’t think it happens. Clemson 37 | App State 20
