The First Look: Missouri Tigers

WHERE TO WATCH
Kickoff – 6:00 PM CST, February 14, 2023
Watch – ESPN2
Listen – Auburn Website
Gamecast – ESPN

After a heartbreaking loss to in-state rival Alabama, Auburn once again is home to redeem themselves against the Tigers of Columbia, Missouri. Missouri has a rich history in basketball that goes back far before their entry into the SEC. They have gone to the NCAA Tournament 29 times, which is an outstanding amount. Reaching the Elite Eight 5 times but going no further.

SERIES HISTORY

This series is neck and neck tied at 6-6. Only 12 games have been played between these two, but it is lopsided. Missouri won all but one of the first six while Auburn has won all but one in the last six meetings. All but a couple have been close, so I expect Bruce Pearl to have his hands full.

WHAT TO WATCH

The main thing to watch in this matchup is how Auburn responds to the Alabama loss. Coach Pearl has called the starters out and he demands more. It is plain and simple; the coaches have done what they can do and they will keep calling their best games, but it is up to the players to play their best basketball to keep Auburn in the NCAA Tournament.

Missouri comes into this game on a hot streak. Winning 5 of their last 6 games playing exceptionally good offensive basketball. If you are an Auburn fan you hope the defense shows up like it has a lot this season and takes advantage of Missouri’s flimsy defense. Auburn should not have a problem scoring against this defense.

PREDICTION

Auburn knows this is a must-win game for their resume to the big tournament. Bruce has said it publicly, I am sure he has in the locker room too. I think Auburn responds and rebounds with a win through their defense again. They have proven they can beat about anybody when they are on their best game.

Auburn 79, Missouri 72
