Well the regular season is over and bowl season is here. I had a pretty strong season in terms of picking games, the best ever actually. I guess once I didn’t have to worry about Auburn anymore, I was able to focus more thought on other games. I think I’ll sacrifice next season though. I’ll take a winning football season over a strong prediction season anytime.
As I’ve always done, the games each week will go from Saturday to Friday. The first week is a little lighter than normal, but that’s okay. We need to ease into the worst bowl slate I’ve ever seen.
Bowl Season: 3-1 (75.0%)
Regular Season: 110-32 (77.5%)
Overall: 113-33 (77.4%)
12/15
Gildan New Mexico Bowl (12 p.m. ESPN)
Nevada vs. Arizona – Nevada has two one-point losses and then some very ugly losses this season. Arizona has some very close losses and then some very ugly losses this season. Arizona’s ugly losses came to some pretty good teams (Oregon, UCLA). Nevada’s bigger losses came to teams like Fresno State and Air Force. There’s your difference.
Arizona 38, Nevada 21
Arizona 49, Nevada 48 – SUCCESS!
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (3:30 p.m. ESPN)
Toledo vs. Utah State – Anytime a lesser team almost beats a superior team, the fans of the superior team sort of adopt the lesser team and become fans of them for the rest of the season or maybe even a few years later. “Oh they almost beat us? They must be good!” That’s exactly how I am with Utah State.
The Aggies have been much better than their name suggests over the last two seasons, especially almost knocking off Auburn last season and Wisconsin this season. The only other loss of the season was to BYU by a score of 6-3. Toledo also only has two losses, to Ball State and Arizona, so this a pretty even matchup. But given that Utah State is still one of my adopted children for at least a little while longer, I’ll go with them.
Utah State 24, Toledo 20
Utah State 41, Toledo 15 – SUCCESS!
12/20
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (7 p.m. ESPN)
BYU vs. San Diego State – That ain’t fair. San Diego State gets to play in their own county? Seriously, though, this is the only bowl sponsored by a local business that I can think of. Just imagine if a bowl game was played at Jordan-Hare Stadium. We could have something like the Momma Goldberg’s Momma’s Love Bowl or the Toomer’s Corner Lemonade Bowl. That’d be fun.
San Diego State is actually good this year? Huh, whodathought? They’ll win.
San Diego State 31, BYU 10
BYU 23, San Diego State 6 – FAILURE
12/21
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl (6:30 p.m. ESPN)
Ball State vs. UCF – UCF lost to Tulsa twice this season. Both were close. I’m not sure how that factors into this game, but it’s somewhat rare. You know it’s hard to beat the same team twice in one season. That’s what they all say, right?
Ball State has had a respectable season, but they’re still in the MAC. A C-USA team, should, I guess, be superior.
UCF 23, Ball State 17
UCF 38, Ball State 17 – SUCCESS!

You missed Ball State vs UCF on 12/21. ULL game is on 12/22
Yikes, somehow I mixed those up. Fixed now. Thanks.
Chuckie Keeton is a one-man army.
Just think how good your record would have been if you didn’t pick Auburn to win all the time.
I don’t include the Auburn picks in the record because those come from the Twitter folk. Thanks for reading.
