If you have Twitter or this thing called the internet, you’re probably well aware of the fact that star of The Help, Octavia Spencer, is a Montgomery native and an Auburn graduate. Tonight, on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, with a little help from Robin Roberts, she let out a big “War Eagle” on national television.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, but it’s probably one of the more widely witnessed red carpet “War Eagles” out there.

War Damn Eagle Octavia! Congrats on the Oscar!
Okay, not to be Miss Bitchy Bitch Auburn Girl…cause I’m thrilled that Octavia won, her performance was incredible and she deserved to win (though I do like Melissa McCarthy a lot and her performance was a risk for her and very well done)…but Octavia only said “War Eagle” because our Southern Girl, Miss Robin Roberts (from coastal Mississippi) knew she graduated from Auburn. Robin said “War Eagle” to her and thankfully, Octavia responded enthusiastically. HOWEVER, she didn’t say it in her acceptance speech, which annoys me beyond belief. She thanks the state of Alabama and there was a little pause there where I was sure she was going to say “War Eagle,” it would have been perfect and she could have moved on quickly and while most of the billions that watched wouldn’t have had a clue what she meant, the Auburn Family would have known. And if she didn’t want to say “War Eagle” she could have at least thanked the state of Alabama AND AUBURN, before moving on. I know she was overwhelmed and emotional, but it still annoys me. It seems to me if you are an actress and a performer, you could write your speech and practice it so you don’t blow your big moment. Still, congratulations to Octavia.
