TEAM HISTORY
Missouri sounds a lot like misery, doesn’t it? Don’t ask anyone from Missouri what it sounds like because they think Missouri, correctly pronounced muh·zur·ee, should be pronounced muh·zur·rah. Literally, nowhere else in the country pronounces Missouri that way.
Anyway, their football team’s all-time record hangs a bit over .500. They claim no national titles and 15 conference titles. Their Wikipedia page suggests they have a rivalry with almost everyone they’ve played against. You don’t have a rivalry with South Carolina. Sorry.
They’ve been affiliated with four different conferences. One from the 19th century was called the WIUFA, which sounds like your local NBC affiliate or a now-defunct Arena Football League.
They’re the Tigers and their colors are yellow and black. Why would any team with the nickname “Tigers” use the color yellow? LSU does it too, and it’s dumb.
AINT NEVER SEEN A YELLA TIGER PAAAWWWLLLLL!
SERIES HISTORY
Auburn has played Missouri five times in football. We’ve won three and lost twice. The only game that mattered was the SEC Championship game in 2013, where Tre Mason racked up over 300 yards rushing in a high-scoring shootout.
We pummeled them into the ground in Colombia in 2017. I remember former Hugh Freeze and current NFL QB Malik Willis running all over their defense in a blowout.
The last meeting between the two teams was a stupid loss. Missouri QB left the game early to get an MRI and then returned at the end, and Missouri scored in the final minute of the game to hand us a 21-17 loss. Hugh seems to be a magnet for stupid losses, but I’ll blame last year on the stupidity of this series. It’s just another stupid game in a stupid series.
WHAT TO WATCH
This game was always on my radar as a win that Hugh would hang his hat on this season. Missouri is seemingly overrated, and Hugh is due for a win, even if it comes ugly. This will likely be the game he pulls out that leaves him twisting in the breeze until the end of the season.
I would suggest watching to see if we run the ball again (we won’t).
Watch to see if Ashton Daniels gets the chance at a few designed QB runs.
What’s amazing is that almost everything I complained about in my First Looks from this time last year ARE THE SAME PROBLEMS WE HAVE THIS YEAR.
PREDICTION
Auburn wins. We give ourselves reasons to be hopeful heading into the back half of the season. If we’re fortunate, this game will help us get into the Birmingham boooh I’m so depressed…
Auburn 21, Missouri 17
