Georgia Preview: Let’s Get Offensive

I tell you what. Going an entire month between home games, two of those weeks being tough road losses followed by a bye week, really throws a kink in finding excitement for the Georgia game. Of course, some of that is due to the Georgia game being incorrectly scheduled in the middle of the season, but that’s an argument for another day.

The last thing Auburn fans saw from this Auburn team was a lackluster offensive performance in a 6-point loss at Texas A&M. Then they had a whole ‘nother week to think about it, or forget about it, or just enjoy their Saturday. So there’s just not much positivity running through any Auburn veins right now.

But the good thing is that we don’t play the games despite what most of social media thinks.

Hugh Freeze is an offensive guy. Wait, that sounded wrong. He’s a buy based around offense. Nobody is bothered more by his offense’s performance than him. And while we were wallowing in two road losses by a touchdown to what are now Top 6 teams, he was using the extra time to figure out how to beat Georgia.

He was very close the last time the Dawgs visited the Plains. What’s even better is that Auburn has better players than that year, and Brock Bowers ain’t walking through that door. Anybody that actually looks at football teams and players will tell you that Auburn has better players than Georgia in multiple positions.

What some of you don’t realize or remember is that the Georgia you’ve seen for the last 4-5 years is not the Georgia we grew up with. They’ve always been decent, but they’ve not always been elite. And that’s what they appear to be this year.

They beat Austin Peay 28-6.

Auburn’s offense hasn’t looked great the last two weeks. Auburn’s defense didn’t look awesome the first three weeks, but they turned it around against two good teams on the road. What does a team that’s struggling on offense need? A night game at home with Cam Newton getting his jersey retired and the whole world watching.

It’s dumb to say that Auburn has sucked on offense all year. It’s dumb to act like they’ve had zero success. They beat a pass-happy Baylor team by two touchdowns on the road. We’ve seen them score points. You’ve seen them struggle to score points on the road against two Top 6 teams. It’s the last thing you saw, so you think it’s what has always been.

You’re wrong.

I’m not one to lump all good things that happen in Jordan-Hare into a bucket of voodoo. I know Auburn can beat anybody and at anytime, especially at home. I’ve seen it. It’s not always a haunted house, or voodoo, or something crazy.

Sometimes, many times it’s just a home field advantage. And considering Auburn hasn’t been home in a month, the advantage will be plentiful.

Jackson Arnold’s legs combined with the legs of Jeremiah Cobb and Damari Alston will be the story. They’ll run for one touchdown each. Two of the three will run for 100 yards. Cam Coleman will Moss somebody. Cam Newton will celebrate.

A streak will be broken and all will be right again.

Auburn 31, Georgia 23
