For the 2nd time in program history, which also happens to be the 2nd time in four seasons, the Auburn Basketball Tigers are ranked the #1 team in the nation by the AP Poll. Nevermind that every unbiased metric has had them #1 for basically the entire season, but now the nation’s greatest sports writers finally agree.

Frankly, I’m surprised that Auburn received 60 of 62 1st place votes. The two voters that do not believe in Auburn are Duke-lover @primetimeMitch and @Bretbloomquist, who voted Florida #1 and covers UTEP athletics. Real winners. But watch out, the loss of Johni Broome for probably at least a handful games will bring about the narrative that Auburn can’t be the best team anymore, so they’ll value their perceived future over the resumé. Just watch.
Auburn’s tutelage as the #1 team in the poll used for all TV rankings (which is why they do matter) will now be met with, based on current rankings, eleven games against ranked teams. Five of those ranked games are top 10 teams (including two against Alabama).
As I said on War Blogle Podcast Episode 17, isn’t it just awesome that the best team in Auburn history will now also have to compete against the best SEC in SEC history?
