TEAM HISTORY

Missouri sounds a lot like misery, doesn’t it? Don’t ask anyone from Missouri what it sounds like because they think Missouri, correctly pronounced muh·zur·ee, should be pronounced muh·zur·rah. Literally, nowhere else in the country pronounces Missouri that way.

Anyway, their football team’s all-time record hangs a bit over .500. They claim no national titles and 15 conference titles. Their Wikipedia page makes it look like they have a rivalry with almost everyone they’ve played. You don’t have a rivalry with South Carolina. Sorry.

They’ve been affiliated with four different conferences. One back in the 19th century was called the WIUFA which sounds like your local NBC affiliate or a now-defunct Arena Football League.

They’re the Tigers and their colors are yellow and black. Why would any team with the nickname “Tigers” use the color yellow? LSU does it too and it’s dumb.

AINT NEVER SEEN A YELLA TIGER PAAAWWWLLLLL!

SERIES HISTORY

Auburn has played Missouri four times in football. We’ve won three and lost once. The only game that mattered was the SEC Championship game in 2013 where Tre Mason racked up over 300 yards rushing in a high-scoring shootout.

We pummeled them into the ground in Columbia in 2017. I remember former Hugh Freeze and current NFL QB Malik Willis running all over their defense in a blowout.

The last meeting between the two teams was a stupid win that felt like a loss.

This is one of those games that I’ve tried very hard to convince myself that it never happened.

WHAT TO WATCH

This game was always on my radar as a win that Hugh would hang his hat on this season. Missouri is seemingly overrated, and Auburn is a team that has shown more statistical production than it has won. It’s a game that’s ripe for an “upset.”

Watch to see if Hugh finally feeds Hunter the ball like he’s finally admitting needs to happen, and everyone has been calling for ALL SEASON LONG!

Watch to see if Payton plays a clean game. I know it’s popular to hate him currently, but his offensive numbers aren’t as bad as they feel. If he can play a clean game then watch out.

Watch to see if the offense overall can actually communicate. I for the life of me don’t understand how this is an issue. I also really think Hugh should be kicked in the pants because no matter how many times he tries to throw his players under the bus the offense not communicating correctly/efficiently/at all IS HIS FAULT AS THE COACH.

PREDICTION

Auburn wins. Hugh pretends like it’s a big deal. We give ourselves reasons to be hopeful turning into the end of the season that we might compete well the rest of the way.

Auburn 21, Missouri 17
