The Emporium’s Outside the SEC Predictions – Week 6

Week 6 of the college football season is here and I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s a sleeper of a week if you like good matchup. Several ranked teams face potential trap games this week that might just end up being upsets. The lone ranked matchup is the SEC between Missouri and Texas A&M. Be sure to check out our SEC predictions blogle to see predictions on that matchup. Here’s five games you need to watch out for this weekend.

SMU Mustangs @ No. 22 Louisville Cardinals | Saturday @ 11:00 A.M. on ESPN

This should be a good early game on Saturday game between two teams who have started off well. Each team comes in with one loss which makes it more important. Louisville is coming off a hard fought defeat against Notre Dame, while SMU dominated Florida State at home. It should be a real test for the Cardinal defense to contain thee high-powered Mustang offense. I think the home field advantage will favor the Cardinal and that they can get enough stops on defense to win the game. Louisville 34 | SMU 31

Army Black Knights @ Tulsa Golden Hurricane | Saturday @ 11:00 A.M. on ESPN

Is this the year of the military schools in the AAC? Well Army and Navy are off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1945. Yes, 1945! Army has been on a roll, winning their first four games by 17 points or more. Tulsa comes in with a 2-3 record, but don’t sleep on their offense who’s averaging 416 yards a game on offense. They go up against a Black Knights defense who’s given up the least amount of yards on defense in thee conference. I think Army’s difficult defense will stifle the Tulsa offense and that the Black Knights will win a slugfest. Army 20 | Tulsa 14

Rutgers Scarlet Knights @ Nebraska Cornhuskers | Saturday @ 3:00 P.M. on FS1

Who would have thought that the Rutgers Scarlet Knights would have a chance to be 5-0 this weekend? Well their next matchup is a tough one at Nebraska. The Cornhuskers were shocked at home last week against Illinois and look to bounce back. Meanwhile Rutgers come in after close wins against Virginia Tech and Washington. I think this will be a close game, but I think Dylan Raiola and the Cornhusker crowd will be too much for Rutgers. Nebraska 27 | Rutgers 24

No. 15 Clemson Tigers @ Florida State Seminoles | Saturday @ 6:00 P.M. on ESPN

This game has some interesting storylines surrounding both teams. One of those is Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei who transferred from Clemson to play for the Seminoles. Another storyline is that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney could surpass Florida State’s legendary coach Bobby Bowden for the most wins in ACC history with a victory on Saturday. Clemson comes into this a game a heavy favorite and I see nothing but an easy win over a very weak Florida State team. Clemson 35 | Florida State 10

No. 8 Miami Hurricanes @ California Golden Bears | Saturday @ 9:30 P.M. on ESPN

ESPN’s College Gameday will be in Berkeley, California for the very first time as the eighth ranked Miami Hurricanes come into town looking to remain unbeaten. California is coming off a tough loss at Florida State where they had a chance to win the game on their final possession. The Golden Bears have been full of surprises, despite very low expectations for their season. Meanwhile, Miami has shown they are the real deal with quarterback Cam Ward. They did however barely escape Virginia Tech after a last second Hail Mary attempt by the Hokies had to be overturned by video review. I think California will hold Miami’s offense down, but I think the Hurricanes will have enough to get the win. Miami 31 | California 21
